Indian weightlifter Preetismita Bhoi broke the youth clean and jerk world record in the women’s 40kg division, securing a gold medal at the IWF World Youth Championships. The 15-year-old surpassed the previous record by lifting 1kg more, showcasing her remarkable strength and skill.
Bhoi’s exceptional performance included lifting 57kg in the snatch, resulting in a total effort of 133kg. Her achievement placed her within a mere 2kg of the youth world standard for the total lift on the competition’s opening day. The event marked a significant triumph for India, with Jyoshna Sabar claiming the silver medal with a total effort of 125kg (56kg+69kg), securing a 1-2 finish.
Fatma Kolcak of Turkey secured the third position with a total lift of 120kg (55kg+65kg). The Indian contingent continued to shine at the championship, with two more weightlifters clinching podium finishes.
Payal earned a silver medal in the women’s 45kg category by lifting a total of 147kg (65kg+82kg). Despite her commendable effort, she finished behind Colombian Lawren Estrada, who secured her second world title with a total lift of 151kg (67kg+84kg).
Babulal Hembrom added to India’s success by securing the bronze medal in the men’s 49kg event. Hembrom’s impressive lift of 193kg (86kg+107kg) showcased his talent and determination on the global stage, highlighting India’s prowess in weightlifting.
